BSIS AI Camera

AI-Based Blind Spot Detection for Vulnerable Road User Protection

SCC’s BSIS AI Camera combines AI-based image recognition with precise blind spot monitoring to detect pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users. Designed for professional fleets, it supports Blind Spot Information System (BSIS) applications under UNECE Regulation 151 and assists in meeting the detection requirements of the Direct Vision Standard Progressive Safe System (DVS PSS), helping drivers operate safely in complex and congested environments.

  • AI-based detection of pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users
  • Provides visual and audible driver alerts via SCC’s 7″ AI Monitor
  • Wide-angle coverage with adaptive filtering to help reduce unnecessary alerts
  • Robust, weather-sealed housing suited to demanding fleet use
  • Supports compliance with UNECE Regulation 151 and DVS PSS requirements

Engineered for Accurate Blind Spot Detection

The BSIS AI Camera uses AI-based image detection to identify vulnerable road users entering the blind spot during low-speed manoeuvres or turning. When a valid detection occurs, it provides a clear visual and audible warning through the in-cab AI Monitor, giving drivers timely awareness without relying solely on continuous camera observation.

Its wide detection angle and adaptive processing help filter out static roadside objects, supporting accurate and consistent performance in dense urban environments. Built for fleet use, the camera is compatible with SCC’s 7″ AI Monitor as well as approved third-party hardware.

Who is this for?

SCC’s BSIS AI Camera is suited to operators working in environments where vulnerable road user protection and blind spot awareness are essential.

Typical applications include:

  • Haulage and logistics fleets operating HGVs in urban areas
  • Construction and utility vehicles working in pedestrian-dense or complex locations
  • Municipal and service fleets operating in busy city environments
  • Vehicles requiring alignment with UNECE Regulation 151
  • Fleets upgrading to meet the Direct Vision Standard Progressive Safe System

What compliance does this help with?

SCC’s BSIS AI Camera supports compliance with the Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Progressive Safe System (PSS) and UNECE Regulation 151 (Blind Spot Information System). By detecting pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable road users entering the nearside blind spot, it ensures operators meet the latest safety and visibility requirements for urban and on-road operation.

Working seamlessly with SCC’s 7″ AI Monitor, the BSIS AI Camera provides clear, real-time visual and audible alerts whenever a vulnerable road user is detected in the blind spot area. Its adaptive AI filtering prevents false alarms from static objects such as parked vehicles or street furniture, delivering precise, reliable performance that aligns with the DVS and BSIS compliance framework. Rugged and weather-sealed, it provides dependable safety assurance in all fleet operating conditions.

What problems does it solve?

Operating in urban environments presents a significant risk for large vehicles, where pedestrians and cyclists can quickly enter the nearside blind spot during low-speed manoeuvring or turning. Even with mirrors or conventional camera views, vulnerable road users may remain difficult to see, leaving drivers exposed to collisions and compliance breaches.

SCC’s BSIS AI Camera mitigates this risk by using AI-based image recognition to detect moving pedestrians and cyclists within the defined blind spot detection area. When a vulnerable road user is identified, the system issues instant visual and audible alerts through the in-cab AI Monitor, giving drivers essential awareness in moments when visibility is most limited. By focusing only on relevant moving objects, it avoids false triggers from static roadside features, ensuring accurate and timely warnings without unnecessary distraction.

Designed for demanding fleet environments, the BSIS AI Camera combines advanced detection capability with everyday operational reliability, helping operators prevent nearside blind-spot incidents and maintain compliance with evolving safety legislation.
