Client Profile
Project Background
JM Park & Son is a family-run farming and agricultural contracting business based at Low Barrowby Farm near Harrogate. Operating a range of agricultural machinery across their own land and on behalf of customers, the business places a strong emphasis on safe working practices, efficiency and ease of use for operators. Operating as both a farming business and an agricultural contractor, their vehicles perform regular low-speed manoeuvres in yards and gateways, and work with a range of implements and attachments where visibility can be restricted.
Agricultural vehicles and machinery present specific visibility challenges. Large working areas, restricted sightlines, regular low-speed manoeuvring and the use of interchangeable implements all increase risk, particularly when working in yards, gateways and shared spaces.
The Challenge
Working with agricultural machinery and interchangeable implements created both safety and operational challenges. JM Park & Son were looking for a practical solution to improve visibility across a number of machines, using systems that remain consistent in use, and perform dependably in demanding conditions, all whilst supporting safer operation and delivering clear operational benefits during everyday use.
The company’s key requirements were for systems that:
- Improve visibility around machines during manoeuvring in yards, gateways and tight areas
- Reduce blind spots when working near people, buildings and other equipment
- Provide clear views of implements and key working areas during operation
- Remain simple and intuitive for operators to use day to day
- Deliver dependable performance in agricultural conditions (dust, moisture and vibration)
- Suit non-standard machine layouts and unusual configurations without creating fragile cable runs
The SCC Solution
SCC installed camera and monitor systems across a number of JM Park & Son’s machines, configured to provide operators with clear, usable visibility of key areas whilst manoeuvring and during working operation.
Installations were tailored to the specific working environment and typical tasks, with camera positions selected to address blind spots and improve awareness around the machine and its working area. One notable application included a camera installed to provide visibility of a seed drill hopper, allowing the operator to monitor hopper status and operation directly from the cab, without needing to stop or leave the machine.
The systems incorporated X-Wire Technology, which is particularly well suited to agricultural machinery where machine layouts and configurations are often non-standard. This helped ensure a reliable installation across unusual configurations, supporting consistent performance in challenging conditions.
The Result
JM Park & Son found the systems invaluable from both a safety and operational standpoint. Improved visibility has helped reduce blind spots and increase confidence when manoeuvring around yards and equipment, whilst also making day-to-day tasks more efficient by allowing operators to monitor key working areas and implements without unnecessary stops.
Ease of operation has been a particular benefit, with the systems quickly becoming part of normal working practice.
Owner Rob Park shared his thoughts:
“The cameras have proved invaluable for us. They make working around the yard and with implements much safer, but they’re just as useful from an operational point of view. The X-Wire technology is particularly impressive. Not only is it simple and reliable, but it allows us to operate in a way that simply wasn’t possible before. Being able to see things like the seed drill hopper from the cab makes such a difference to our day-to-day operations.”
